SPECIALIST CRAFT TUTOR - TWO-YEAR PROGRAM
The basic thinking behind specialist craft teaching is that peoples' involvement with arts and crafts is of significance in their personal development. One main focus of the entire course is an understanding of the artistic process and the communication which can take place when people come together through craftwork.
It could be about preventive social work and different types of rehabilitation. Today you will find specialist craft tutors within schools, care centres for children, youth centres, refugee centres, prisons, museums, crisis centres for women as well as within care for the elderly, psychiatry and forensic medicine.
This two-year program covers the six craft subjects: woodwork, weaving, textile design, metalwork, ceramics and drawing and painting. In addition, there is an educational component containing educational theory, psychology and social work theory.
You will be acquainted with the different materials and will receive experience in the artistic process. The students gain basic experience in craft techniques and tasks which provide practice in how to proceed from idea to execution in a creative and instructive way. The purpose is that you will be able to help and guide other people by creative activities.
The educational component provides theoretical knowledge about society, the family and individual development. The theoretical part of the education continuously interplays with the practical parts in the work shops.
The tuition is built on presence and group teaching in common themes and projects, crossing borderlines. The education is finalized with an essay where theory and practice are combined.
An important part of the education is the ability to dissolve set structures and working with human meetings. Specialist craft tutors work with groups. The two-year vocational training also contains a tutored work placement in one of the profession’s work areas. The teachers at the Specialist craft tutor programme are active professionals within arts and crafts, psychologists and trained social workers. We also contract guest teachers will special skills and knowledge.
Since special craft tutors are required in many more areas within the society, we welcome a variety of knowledge from the applicants. You do not need any previous experience from pedagogical work. The most important is to be curious about and having a large interest in people.
